Our Mission

To work cooperatively and enthusiastically to provide a memorable experience for the youth of Cecil County and to foster the relationships between youth, their families, and law enforcement.

Our History

Founded in 2012 from the philosophy that “even Santa needs a little help”, Shop With A Cop

(SWAC) Cecil County is committed to serving those that may not otherwise experience the magic of

Christmas. As a federally recognized non-profit, SWAC strives to create unforgettable Christmas

memories for children and families of Cecil County, Maryland. Each December, law enforcement

officers from Cecil County volunteer to spend a Saturday morning shopping with a child for clothing,

toys, and other gifts to put under the Christmas tree.

The children, ranging from age two to twelve, are partnered with a law enforcement officer for

the day’s events. The day begins with children meeting their law enforcement partner then parading –

with lights and sirens – to Walmart of North East, MD for their shopping spree. After a full morning of

shopping, the children and their families are welcomed back at the Upper Chesapeake Ballroom for a

party and visit from Santa. As our guests enjoy the party, the SWAC elves are busy wrapping all the

gifts for the children to place under their Christmas trees.

Originating from the generosity of a small group of Maryland State Troopers and their families,

Shop With A Cop was able to provide a Christmas to eight local children. In 2013, with the addition of

several other law enforcement agencies and the support and generosity of local businesses and citizens,

the number of children was increased to 21. Last year with all six Cecil County law enforcement

agencies joining together and the continued overwhelming support from local businesses and citizens

the number nearly tripled to 61 children.

We sincerely thank the local businesses, individuals, and law enforcement officers that have

helped with past events. Not only have these events provided a memorable Christmas to many Cecil

County children and their families, but it has also made a lasting impression on all those involved!
